WealthyRolloTreadway(BusterKeaton)suddenlydecidestoproposetohisneighboracrossthestreet,BetsyO'Brien(KathrynMcGuire),andsendshisservanttobookpassageforahoneymoonseacruisetoHonolulu.WhenBetsyrejectshissuddenofferhowever,hedecidestogoonthetripanyway,boardingwithoutdelaythatnight.Becausethepiernumberispartiallycovered,heendsuponthewrongship,theNavigator,whichBetsy'srichfather(FrederickVroom)hasjustsoldtoasmallcountryatwar. Agentsfortheothersmallnationintheconflictdecidetosettheshipadriftthatsamenight.WhenBetsy'sfatherchecksupontheship,heiscapturedandtiedupbythesaboteurs.Betsyhearshiscryforhelpandboardstheshiptolookforhim,justbeforeitiscutloose. TheNavigatordriftsoutintothePacificOcean.Thetwounwittingpassengerseventuallyfindeachother.Atfirst,theyhavegreatdifficultylookingafterthemselves,butadaptafterafewweeks.Atonepoint,theysightanavyshipandhoistabrightly-coloredflag,notrealizingitsignalsthattheshipisunderquarantine.Asaresult,theothervesselturnsaway. Finally,theshipgroundsitselfnearaninhabitedtropicalislandandspringsaleak.WhileRollodonsadeepseadivingsuitandsubmergestopatchthehole,theblacknativescanoeoutandtakeBetsycaptive.WhenRolloemergesfromtheocean,thenativesarescaredoff,enablinghimtorescueBetsyandtakeherbacktotheship.Thenativesreturnandtrytoboardtheship.Afterafiercestruggle,RolloandBetsytrytoescapeinasmalldinghy.Itstartstosink,andthenativesswiftlyovertakethemintheircanoes.Justwhenallseemslost,anavysubmarinesurfacesrightunderneaththemandtheyaresaved.
